Tribute from his daddy Joey: "I lost a friend today, and it broke my heart. He was a kind and gentle soul who deserved much better than life had given him. We do not get too many chances to be touches by a truly innocent being and Sundance was one. Everybody loved him. As I fight back my tears, I can't help but feel guilty that there was something more I could have done. for if anyone deserved to be saved, it was him. Even though he was in failing health, it doesn't make it easier. He was not in the best of shape when he came to us, but we knew when we met him.... there was room for one more. Under Camille's care he enjoyed a robust recovery and he was a true joy. Of course my part as the spoiling father carries none of the weight that goes along with being Mommy the caretaker, but he was such a love that the extra maintenance required seemed like little of a burden. I'll never forget the loping strides and big smile the first time I let him run unleashed in the fields. Or how much he loved going for a ride. He asked for little. What he gave back was priceless. I say I lost a friend today. But like the few times he strayed when we were on our walks, I believe when I get to the end of my road, he will be there with that silly grin and that soulful, welcome home howl that always made me laugh. I could use one of those now." |
